Success. What is it?
Is it the mansion you live in, the car you drive, the amounts you have in your bank account? Oh no, it’s where you were last year and where you are now.
Success. Who is it?
The one millionaire friend who treats the middle class like shit, or is it the billionaire who trumps the millionaire?
Success. Where is it?
Is it in the countless hours of going without sleep, the number of doors slammed, the friends lost, families missed? Maybe it’s the bullet loaded in the gun, or the pills placed in the prescription bottle.
Why attain success when all it does is blinds us? Put us in a place of regret, depression and sorrow. You see, our expectation of success is all wrong. The media has put us here. Parties. Girls. Freedom. It’s all an illusion. It’s like running the same race every single day. We go through this reoccurring cycle. We believe we are achieving, but really, we are fading. We feel we are winning, but really, we are losing. You see, success shouldn't be about succeeding, but more about changing. We should define success by the number of lives changed rather than the amount of Benjamin Franklin's counted. We should celebrate success when the media has helped rather than the amount of sales made. We should fight for success when a friend is in danger rather than ourselves in danger. We should look towards success when the difference needs to be made. That's it. So, the next time someone asks you what is success, remember it’s not about the word "me" but the word "you".
